How To Conquer Your Inner Voice In 3 Simple Steps
Sometimes that inner voice can talk so loudly and sometimes it can talk so negatively and it just doesn’t go away.
Conquering this negative dialogue is one of the best things you can do for your health and that is why I created a 3 Step Process to regain control, especially if the inner voice ‘off’ button seems to be malfunctioning.
Firstly, this inner voice doesn’t serve you and only tries to keep you small. It makes you procrastinate, and that makes you not achieve your goals. No thank you! If you’re reading this blog it shows that you are absolutely ready to conquer this once and for all, and that my friend requires a celebration, well done!
The three-step process is the 3 R System. R,R,R it sounds like a pirate “Arr, Arr, Arr”, so let’s go with it and become bad-ass, like a pirate.
The 1st step is:
1.) Realise.
Realise when your inner voice is active and when it’s talking really loud. This is a step of awareness. This is a step of pausing for a moment and realising that the inner voice is here, it is present, it’s here to debilitate you in some way and it’s here to help you alleviate some sort of discomfort, which is not in alignment with your goals.
Realising that your inner dialogue is active is the very first step to talking back to it because the second step is to respond.
2) Respond.
You can respond to your inner voice verbally or mentally. I prefer verbally because it makes you realise that this identity is not you and this voice is not in alignment with your values. This inner voice, believe it or not, is just here to keep you safe and to protect you. It’s just doing it the wrong way! So, how are you supposed to respond when you catch yYou can respond to your inner voice verbally or mentally. So, how are you supposed to respond when you catch yourself in the midst of all of these thoughts? All you have to do is answer back to it in a way that your brain knows you are safe. You could try something like this: “Thank you for coming here to protect me, however I’m okay. I need to get up and do this workout because it is in alignment with my health goals.”
Remember, you are not alone. We all have an inner dialogue that is very unique to each of us. Stand up to it here in this second step. This is where you must engage your courage muscles, stand up to the dialogue, respond to it and then enjoy the 3rd step.
3) Reward.
After you complete the first 2 steps and you’ve conquered that inner voice for now, it is time to reward yourself with a little happy dance celebration or some sort of acknowledgment that you have taken charge of your inner voice. In this very moment it is a brand new start for you – congratulations. Just like a muscle, the more repetitions you complete of this process the stronger you get and the better you get at it. Always celebrate the wins, no matter how big or how small.
Another little bonus hack that I find helps, is to name the inner voice. And I find the best name to use is that of an annoying person you know. Plus, it is a great motivator to get this person / voice out of your thoughts quicker! With a name, you are able to detach from the inner voice as being part of your identity. You discover that this is not you and you just need to implement the 3 R System and conquer it to regain control and a positive mindset.
Mindset is everything.
Conquer your mind, conquer your life.
