Let’s dive straight in and talk about the common misconception around exercise and nutrition and shift the paradigm that a low-calorie/ low fat diet is the best way to lose fat. I used to restrict my calories, binge, I would diet sometimes, eat good sometimes, starve myself sometimes you name it, I’ve done it! You could have said that Yo-Yo was my middle name.

Once I became a Personal Trainer and began studying Nutrition my life changed forever.

I’d like to start be enforcing this statement into your brain. Our bodies are super intelligent and will adapt to your circumstances.

Listen closely. When you starve yourself, your body senses this caloric restriction and tries to keep you alive by making life-saving changes in your body. These changes include storing fat, which make it harder to get rid of, ‘just incase’ you starve again. Your metabolism will then slow down to the point where it does not want to let go of body fat. No matter how little you eat, you won’t lose that fat you’re working so hard to burn.

“This doesn’t make sense to me?!”

Rather than going crazy with calorie counting, I advise my clients to focus on eating as much nutrient-dense foods as they want so that they nourish their bodies with the nutrients and minerals needed to develop a strong, fit, and healthy looking body.

Please always keep in mind that, our bodies are great at adapting to the way we treat them. When you switch to this high-quality way of eating, focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables, organic, free-range, or grass-fed meats, wild fish, and healthy fats, your body responds by saying “All Systems Go!” and amps up your metabolism. This will allow you to burn more fat while eating more food than you’ve probably eaten in a long time.

People who use this nutritional approach can eat as much as they want, go to sleep full and satisfied, and wake up looking and feeling better than they did the day before.
Beyond the physical toll that low-calorie diets take on the body, it’s a big mental burden to deprive yourself of your favourite meals because they aren’t “in your diet”. The first 3 letters in diet spell die. Don’t do it! Treat yourself, but make sure you eat smart.

Sustaining the body you want does not have to be some time consuming, way too hard commitment. I want this to be your new life, and for a lifestyle program to work, it can’t be restrictive. My approach to eating allows you to enjoy big dinners every night. You can really eat whatever you want, as long as you are smart about it, and dive into some ice cream or pizza without suffering the detrimental affects to your physique.

So, be nice to your body. Stop with the calorie restriction, nourish your body with wholesome foods and enjoy the stress-free, healthy way to looking and feeling the way you’ve always wanted.
